Hi Beth. Good to see someone here again. While I can't say one way or the other whether your Niers and those I found for my nieces are related, that's something that shouldn't be ruled out based on where they were in this country. New York sits on top of Pennsylvania. Where my Niers were before PA, I have no idea. The census information I got on them came from look-up persons here, and information on where people's parents were born wasn't included.
My research days are far behind me, and I was hurrying to get binders made for my children and all my nieces and nephews from all of my research while I was still able when I recieved all the information on the Niers. If I had the means, and good enough vision to do so, I'd look up the real censuses to find out where they did come from. Since I have neither, I've left what information I had for others to work from.
I remember my Uncle Bill Nier (married to my grandmother's identical twin) when I was little. He smoked a big light-colored curved and carved pipe. I'd bet it was German made.
Best luck with your search.
Wilma
