Godfrey Nims of France or New France?

What are latest thoeries as to Godfrey's birthplace. Was he from New France? Makes more sense that he or his parents, emigrated to New France, then migrated south from Quebec or environs to Mass.I have no information myslef, my wife is a descendant of Godfrey via John. I want very much to focus on the theories as I have an enormous Quebec tree on my side of the family. It seems plausible his name was altered. From what or why is the question.
