I too am descended from John Nims. I like your theory on travelling from Quebec to Mass. Makes sense. As far as I know, Godfrey's original name was Godefroi DeNismes (I believe pronounced De-nee-may according to a couple of french people I know!)but I have never been able to find any info on any family by the name of DeNismes nor have I been able to find any info on Godfrey before the mid 1660's. No one has been able to prove that he was even born in France, some people think Germany or England so who knows? Good luck with your research, maybe we will never know.
