The theory that Godfrey came to New France then went to to the States is a good one. But i don't think it could have occured. In Europe at the time there were the constant wars between Catholics and Protestants. The French wanted to create a "New France" that was perfect, which meant entirely catholic. When immigration began, only catholics were allowed into the colony. Those that were protestant or of other faiths were forced to convert or to go back to Europe. As for the pronounciation, I pronounce it De-Nime (I'm french). if it would be De Nee-May, it would have been spelt with ay or é at the end.
