Marriage record for Thomas Sharp and Elizabeth Smith in Haddonfield Meeting Minutes:
Whereas Thomas Sharp, son of John Sharp of the Township of Evesham in the County of Burlington and western Division of the province of New Jersey and Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Thomas Smith of the township and county aforesaid, having declared their intention of Marriage with each other before severall monthly meeting of the People called Quakers In the County of Glouceser according to the Good order used amongst them whose proceeding therein after a Deliberate Consideration thereof and having Consent of Parents and relations conserned and nothing appearing to obstruct where approved of by the said Meeting: Now these are called to certify all whome it may concern that for this full accomplishment their intentions this third day of the tenth month in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty four they the said Thomas Sharp and Elizabeth Smith appeared in a meeting held in the meeting house in Evesham in the county above and the said Thomas Sharp taking the said Elizabeth Smith by the hand did in sollemn manner openly declare that he took her to be his wife promising by God's assistance to be unto her a loving and faithfull husband until the Lord by death should sepperate them. And then and there in the said assemby the said Elizabeth Smith did in Like manner declare that she took of said Thomas Sharp to be her husband promising by God's assistance to be unto him a loving and faithfull wife till it should please God by Death to Sepperate them. And moreover of said Thomas Sharp and Elizabeth his wife she according to the Custom of Marriage assuming the name of her husband as a further confirmation thereof did than and there presented their hand, and we whose names are here under subscribed being amongst others present at the sollemnization of the said Marriage and Subscription in manner above as Witnessed thereunto have allso to those present left our hand the day and year above written.
