Joseph Cross - 1682

I am pulling out all the stops to locate Joseph Cross. In a letter to one of my relatives in 1933, it states that Joseph Cross appeared in records dating back to 1682 in Burlington, NJ. Further, he went on to become Sheriff of this area.

Any help to establish this link would be appreciated.
