THE DOUBLE WEDDING

The Daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Springer Become Brides at the Same Moment

Weddings always have a peculiar attraction for the gentler sex – and a great many of the men as well – and when it comes to a double wedding the interest is increased in even greater proportion than the ratio of one to two. The Gazette has no knowledge of such an event ever having taken place here before, and is sure that no such occurrence has been recorded within the last quarter of a century.

Hence those who were so fortunate as to be included in the list of guests bidden to the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Springer’s daughters, Minnie H. to Rem S. Taylor and Louise M. to H. Moffat Roorbach, yesterday, considered themselves born under a lucky star indeed.

The parlor of the Springer residence (which is about a half mile above the village on the Seaside road,) was beautifuly decorated with asparagus, ferns, and ivy, and the officiating ministers were Rev. Edmund Hewitt, D.D., Presiding Elder of Bridgeton District (uncle of the brides), and their pastor, Rev. George E. Archer Ph.D.

As the hands on the dial pointed to twelve, the bridal couples took their positions for the brief ceremony which was to seal their fates for life—for weal or woe, for sickness or health, for happiness or sorrow, for prosperity or adversity and the responses to the formal questions were made so clearly and solemnly that there could be no doubt of the contracting parties having a full realization of the deep import of the ceremony in which they were the chief actors.

The brides were gowned in white silk mousseline with lace yokes, and carried bride roses. The wedding march was played by Miss M. Louise Springer, cousin of the brides, from Philadelphia.

Following is a list of those invited to witness the ceremony:
