am seeking information on my GGGrandfather, John Ireland, particularly where and when he was born and his parents names. Below is his obituary from 1899. Family lore says his mother was Anna Drummond, but I can't find any confirmation. Also, Tuckahoe is not nor has ever been in Ocean County (I think). Could it realy be Tuckerton? Any help or advice is appreciated.

John Ireland, the oldest resident of Ocean township, died last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Benejah Layton of Long Branch, aged 97 years. Until a few months ago he was able to walk about the yard, but he has latterly been confined to the bed.

Mr. Ireland was born at Tuckahoe, in Ocean county. He came from sturdy Scotch stock, his mother living to be 105 years old. When he was a boy he left home and shipped on a coast trading vessel. After a few years spent at sea he gave up seafaring and went to Oakhurst to live. In 1829 he married Miss Catherine Jeffrey, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Jeffrey of Poplar. She died fifteen years ago and since that time Mr. Ireland had lived with his daughter at Long Branch. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ireland, four of whom are living. Those living are Mrs. Benejah Layton and Mrs. William T. VanDyke of Long Branch; Mrs. Edwin L. Wells of Oakhurst, and Prof. W. B. Ireland of Washington, D. C., who was at one time a teacher in the Long Branch schools. Fourteen years ago Mr. Ireland met with an accident which caused cataracts to form on his eyes and he was totally blind during the last few years of his life.
