Hello Again, Cherie,

You're very welcome. I enjoyed doing it.

What a wonderful letter you received from Kathy. Full of information, even if it didn't give the relationships. She seems to be right on the money with all the names though and giving you a bit of the history.

I did a little more delving from info. provided by her letter. The sister of Milton, Townsend and Reuben, who lived to be over one hundred years old was ANNIE D. (GARRETSON) INGERSOLL, b. March 1871. She married FRANK INGERSOLL, b. Sept. 1863, son of ENOCH & CATHERINE A. (Maiden name unknown)INGERSOLL. They seemed to have married late in life, as Frank was still single at age 48 on the 1910 Census. Frank's parents also had a farm on River Road (Head of the River Road) in Weymouth Twsp., Atlantic Co., NJ. This must be how they met one another. By the 1920 Census, they were married, still residing on River Road. I get the impression that they never had any children due to marrying late in age.

EDITH H. (GARRETSON) NAVONE is Frank I. Garretson's sister. Her husband may have been JOHN NAVONE, b. April 20, 1920, d. August 1985, last res. being Vineland, NJ. She may still be living, as I didn't find her on the SSDI. She seems to still be living in Vineland, Cumberland Co, NJ at 1305 W. Wheat Road. She previously lived at 202 Main St., Woodbine, Cape May Co, NJ. Since this was the last residence of Reuben Garretson, Edith and Frank's father, I would say that he was living with Edith in his old age or due to poor health.

I also found out more about Frank's mother, Caroline's side of the family. CAROLINE was born July 1882.
CAROLINE "CALLIE" (LEE) GARRETSON's parents were HORACE & HANNAH (Maiden name unknown)LEE (Frank's maternal Grandparents). HORACE was born November 1848 in NJ & was a farmer; HANNAH was born March 1849 in NJ. On the 1900 Census, Hannah states that she had 6 children born to her and that when this census was taken, only 4 were living. I only have the names of three of her children; these would be Caroline's siblings and Frank's uncles and aunt, and also his aunts and possible uncle by marriage. 1.HARRY SMITH LEE, b. November 29, 1884 in Tuckahoe, Upper Township, Cape May County, NJ, married REBA EMMA (Maiden name unknown). In 1942, Harry & Reba resided in Estelle Manor, Upper Twsp, Cape May Co., NJ {Mailing address was RFD Woodbine, NJ}, 2.EVA LEE, b. abt 1876 in NJ. Eva may have married ELMER REEVES GIFFORD, b. Sept. 25, 1874, a blacksmith, son of DANIEL H. & TEMPERANCE (Maiden name unknown) GIFFORD of Millville, Cumberland Co, NJ, but I'm not certain about this. However, if this is correct, they had a son (seems to be their only child) named DANIEL H. GIFFORD, most likely named after Elmer's father. The family eventually resided in Philadelphia, PA., & 3.CHARLES S. LEE b. October 6, 1877 in Tuckahoe, Upper Township, Cape May County, NJ, married CORDELIA "DELIA" A. (Maiden name unknown). Children of Charles S. & Cordelia "Delia" Lee & Frank's maternal first cousins were: 1. SAMUEL H. LEE, b. abt. 1901 in NJ, 2. HARVEY LEE, b. abt. 1904 in NJ, 3. CHARLES LEE, JR., b. abt. 1911 in NJ (1930 Census: Automotive Mechanic in Corbin City), 4. FLORENCE LEE, b. abt. 1914 in NJ, DOUGLAS LEE, b. abt. 1921 in NJ. The 1910 & 1920 Census records find Charles S. Sr. & Delia Lee living in Weymouth Twsp., Atlantic Co., NJ and on the 1930 Census they are living in Corbin City, Atlantic Co., NJ. In 1942, address in Corbin City was Main St. Charles S. Lee, Sr's job in Corbin City during the taking of the 1930 Census was a Merchant for Chevrolet Sales. 1910 & 1920 Census records show Charles, Sr.'s occupation was that of a House Carpenter.

During the taking of the 1880 Census on June 21st, the Horace & Hannah Lee family were living in Upper Township, Cape May County, NJ. Since two of their children were known to be born in Tuckahoe, I'd say they were living in Tuckahoe.

CAROLINE "CALLIE" (LEE) GARRETSON's paternal Grandparents & FRANK I. GARRETSON's maternal Great Grandparents were:
JESSE LEE, b. abt 1831 in NJ & RACHEL (Maiden name unknown) LEE, b. abt. 1814 in NJ. Known children were: 1. JOSEPH LEE, b. abt. 1839 in NJ, 2. GEORGE LEE, b. abt. 1840 in NJ, 3. ELIZABETH LEE, b. abt. 1843 in NJ, 4. CINDERELLA LEE, b. abt. 1845 in NJ, 5. HORACE LEE, b. November 1848 in NJ (Caroline's father & Frank I. Garretson's maternal grandfather), 6. FRANKLIN LEE, b. abt. 1853 in NJ, 7. SAMUEL O. LEE, b. abt. 1855 in NJ, & MARY LEE, b. abt. 1858 in NJ. Caroline's father, Horace Lee's siblings would be Frank I. Garretson's Grand Uncles & Grand Aunts. Many people say Great Uncles & Great Aunts.

I'm sorry that your "Popi" doesn't converse with the family. It sounds like he went into depression after your father, his step son, passed away. No one wants to see a child of theirs, whether blood-related or not, die before them. He also may have thought that not having blood connections with all of you that he was no longer a part of the family. Living out of state makes it difficult to interact with someone when they won't answer the phone. It may be worth your while to make a visit to him. You could combine this visit with a vacation in NJ. The beaches are wonderful, and there's a lot to do and see there, especially in the summertime. There is no doubt in my mind that he would not only be pleasantly surprised but would be thrilled to see you. Put together his genealogy and present it to him as a gift from you. It's worth a try to open the communication once again before it's too late due to his passing away and leaving that void in your life.
