I note this from the Cumberland County NJ Clerk of Courts website. Don't know how far back the imaging will/is done or whether it will ever make it online.

LAND RECORDS IMAGING SYSTEM RECEIVES STATE APPROVAL

Cumberland County Clerk Gloria Noto is proud to announce that her office has been awarded certification by state officials for a new land records image processing system on November 20, 2002. The new system allows the County Clerk's staff to scan and retain digitized images of deeds, mortgages and other public records. The scanning process allows for faster processing of legal documents, quicker public access to information and reduced costs for microfilming. The need for paper books is eliminated, saving storage and office space as well as money.

The Cumberland County Clerk's Office Land Records Imaging System, installed by Eisenberg Associates, has been in use since February 2002. The application for approval was submitted and approval was received by Division of Archives & Records Management on November 20, 2002.

"My staff and I have worked together to greatly modernize information processing in the Clerk's Office. This imaging system has resulted in a savings of almost $50,000 per year over previous systems. When compared to similar systems in use in other counties, the Eisenberg system costs much less while providing excellent service. In addition, very few systems in the State of New Jersey receive approval on their first application. This is indicative of the hard work and cooperative effort between my staff, Eisenberg Associates and the Division of Records Management. We look forward to continuing to provide friendly, cost-effective service to the public."

Not only does the imaging system save money, paper and storage, it also improves customer service by allowing easier access to information and reducing the recording time from almost three weeks to only one week.
