Hi, this is the first time I have posted on this board. I am currently researching the Chester's of Cape May and other various New Jersey counties. This is what I have so far: John Driver married Anne and had five children John, Mary, Anne, Elizabeth, and Samuel. Mary Driver b. abt. 1672 in England and died aft 1728 in Gloucester Co., NJ. She married William Chester abt. 1693 in Gloucester Co., New Jersey. He was born abt. 1670, and died abt. Sep 1727 in Gloucester Co., New Jersey from the Calendar of New Jersey Wills, 1670-1760 page 90 Name: William Chester Date 30 Sep 1727 Location: Great Mantos Creek, Gloucester Co. will of. Wife Mary. Sons--William and Samuel. The two sons receive 60 acres of land at Mantos Creek, to be surveyed out of the tract bought of Hannah Carpenter, adjoining Breakback Run and Luke Gibsons; the remainder of said tract, the home farm and 100 a. bought of Thomas Budd, are given to John Rambo senior and Robert Lord, both of Gloucester Co., in trust for testator's wife during her life, then reverting to son John. The wife and son John executors. Witnessess--John Brown, James Tull, Josa. Lord. Proved 23 Mar 1727-8, John Chester refusing to act as executor. Lib. 2, p. 514, and Gloucester Wills 02 Jan 1727-8 Inventory of the personal estate, L103.5.8; made by Philip Paul, Robert Lord, Wm. Winton and John Brown. This is believed to be William Chester, husband of Mary Driver. They had three sons: William, Samuel, and John (as listed in the will) from Calendar of New Jersey Wills, 1670-1760 Page: 93 Name: John Chester Date: 04 Feb 1736 Location: Deptford, Gloucester Co. yeoman. Int. George Cozens, of Greenwich, Admr. Gabriel Rambo, yeoman, fellow bondsman, of same place. Witness--Joseph Rose. Lib. 4, p.84 1736, Jany. 25. Renunciation of Abigail Chester, widow of John Chester. 1736, Feb. 14. Inventory, L49.15.2. Appraisers--Alexr. Randall, Gabriel Rambo. 1737, March 5. Account shows payments to John Butterworth, William Arell, Ann Fleming, Obadiah Gibson, Joshua Maddock, Abraham Vining, Charity Brown, Joshua Richardson, Francis Batten, Derity Turner, George Ward, Junr., Thomas Wilkins, John Worthington, Samuell Chester, John Carter, William Tettum, Hannah Ward, John Wood, Mar. Steelman, Alexr. Randall, Alexr. King, Ann Cooper, Edward Wilson. This is believed to be the son of William and Mary Chester. from Calendar of New Jersey Wills, 1670-1760 Page 93 Name: Joseph Chester Date: 27 Dec 1748 Location: Township of Deptford, Gloucester Co. laborer; will of. Brother--William, James and Samuel; sister, Eln. Executors--John Wilkins and my brother, Samuel Chester. Witnessess--Francis Wood, Isaac Tatum. Affirmed 20 March 1748. 1748, Jany. 11. Inventory, L30.8.6. Appraisers--Wm. Wilkins, William Wood Lib. 6, p. 86 this Chester I am not quiet sure who he "belongs" to. I am assuming he is the son of one of William and Mary's sons. From one of these brother of Joseph Chester, William, James and Samuel I believe Joseph Chester, Sr., b. 1752/3 in Cape May, comes from one of them. My best guest at this point in William Chester, who according to the records of the First Baptist Church of Cape May married Lydia Jordan on 04 Jan 1750/51. This would put them at the proper age for Joseph to be the oldest son of the couple. Also it is my belief that this couple (William and Lydia) had sons John, Samuel, and William, and possibly had a daughter named Hannah. Please keep in mind that most of this is my own theories. If anyone can confirm any of my theories, disprove my theories, or just wants to talk about this line at all, please email me, or post a reply. Notify Administrator about this message?
