My grandmother Marie Teresa Schieck (Schenck) dob 1877 and my maternal aunt, Marrion Milan dob 1889, were cared for nuns in what was probably an Episcopalian orphanage in New Jersey, the former in the years after 1885 and the later around 1910.
In 1910 or there about, a windstorm took down all the trees on the opposite side of the street from the orphanage, sparing all those on the same side as the orphanage. According to my aunt, the children there were required to do the Stations of the Cross while going up a set of stone stairs on their knees.
Do any of these reports fit anyone's knowledge of an orphanage in New Jersey? If any does, I would love to know as I would like to search the records there. You see my grandmother's immigration records were burned in a pre-Ellis Island fire and perhaps they might clarify for me where my great grandmother and father were born.
