Fred, actually Perth Amboy was once called Barber. I've never heard of Barber's Point though. There is a Barbertown in Kingwood, NJ and also Barbours Mill & Barbours Pond in Wayne, NJ. Ash Swamp is a low lying area now mostly covered by the Ash Brook Golf Course. When we get heavy rains the grounds get mushy because of the high water table. I reckon that's why it received its original name. My ancestors that lived in the Ash Swamp area were the Marsh and Frazee families. The Tucker's and Ludlum's lived closer to Westfield proper. I have long suspected that there is a burial ground somewhere on the Ash Brook reservation, which is mostly woods and bogs, because burial places for a large block of my ancestors cannot be found and I know they died in the area.
