MUDIE's of Perth Amboy 1600's from Scotland - descendants to Nova Scotia??

Can anyone help me please? I am searching for descendants of David MUDIE who came to Perth Amboy in 1685 from Montrose, Angus, Scotland.
He came with several of his children and 13 servants.
One of his sons was named James MUDIE who I believe was teenager when they arrived.
I am trying to find MUDIE's that were born to David's sons and having quite a time.
I believe that my 5th grt. grandfather James Mudie/Moodie/Moody may have been linked to this family.
My James was born c1750 and went to Nova Scotia, Canada as a Loyalist and said he was from NJ.

I believe some of David MUDIE's family went to New York as well so they might have traveled back and forth between NY and NJ. I live no where near NJ or would do the research myself.
If anyone can help with Birth or Marriage look-ups for Mudie/Moodie/Moody in the early to mid 1700's I would be Most greatful. Or better yet, point to a place online where I could look them up myself.
I have been told that the NJ State Vital records office no longer does look-ups. I wish these places would get these records On-line and just charge us a fee for doing our own research. They could make a ton of money off us folks searching for old VR's if they would.
Thanks so much for any help.
