My ancestor, Mary Sutphin was born ca. 1780 in Monmouth or Middlesex County, NJ. She married Benjamin VanHise on March 9, 1806, First Presbyterian Church, Cranbury, Middlesex, NJ.
Their first child was Richard Sutphin Van Hise which may be a clue that her father's name was Richard Sutphin.
Has anyone come across this family? Any suggestions on where to find their marriage certificate?
