They say every family has a horse thief.
Ambrose and Stephen W. Canfield were lodged in the Morris County Jail in 1824. They had been indicted for horse stealing. The state attorney general had authorized John McGrah to travel to western NY and PA to find three witnesses. Does anyone know where I should start looking for the court records (state or county)?
