May 25, 1777, in Chatham, Morris Co. NJ my ancestor STEPHEN CARTER enlisted as Private in "Capt. John Doughty's Company in Col. Lamb's Regiment of Artillery in the service of the United States" in which he served until Sept. 1780.
So far, I have not been able to relate him to any of the Carter families that lived in Chatham at the time of his enlistment. He was of the Presbyterian faith and was born about Dec. 11, 1760. Any suggestions?
