To Morris County researchers ;

In a indenture between Isaac Vanduyn & wife Mary of the 1st
part & John Jacob FARSCH ? dated 10 Aug,1787 of land lying
in Pequannock twp.
In the description of the boundry of land "......begining
at a heap of stones 6 chains on a course south 50 degrees
west from a chestnut tree marked on four sides with a blaze
& three notches under the same it being a corner of land ....."

(P.S. in the above indenture it strongly suggest that
Isaac's wife, Mary was daughter of Jacob FORD,jr ,Esq.)

In a Indenture between Martin Vanduyne [formerly of Morris
County] and Ralph WILLIAMS of the state of New Jersey dated
23 Jan,1803. (of land lying in both Morris & Sussex co's]
In the description of the boundry of land "......beginning
at the horn beam tree marked on four sides with a blaze
and three hacks under one each side of the four sides
standing at the west end of a small claer medow....."

Is this typical of boundry marking back then ????????
Is this a particular marking akin to marking a cow or a
hog's ear ??? ,showing particular ownership ????????
