I started looking for Margaret Colby (born about 1820 in NYC). She supposedly married ___ Caldwell and lived in Tom's River. None of the census shows a Margaret Caldwell, but the 1900 census does show an Andrew J. Caldwell (single, age 48) living with his brother-in-law Moses Johnson and (presumably) his sister Catharine Johnson. The trail went dead until I searched the census records for Andrew J. (with last name blank). Aha! Andrew J. Colville (single, age 28) was living with his parents John T. and Margaret Colville (all born in NY).
My problem is that Margaret Colville last appears in 1880. Andrew J. Caldwell/Colville last appears in 1900. Can anyone advise me about how to possibly find dates of death--or anything that might show if Margaret Colville was Margaret Colby?
