Ephraim Earnest and Rebecca Garton, 1850 Salem County, N.J.

Ephraim Earnest and Rebecca Garton are my great-great grandparents. The 1850 census shows them in Salem County, Pittsgrove (is that correct?) Twsp. Next to them is the family of Hosea Garton. They were married in Cumberland County, N.J. in 1849. I would like to find out if Hosea and Rebecca are related. I always thought the marriage took place in Cumberland County because she was from there. The 1850 census lists Pennsylvania as the birthplace of Ephraim. Are there any other Earnests in Salem County in the mid-nineteenth century? Any help with these questions will be greatly appreciated.
