After water was discovered in abundance in Artesia, New Mexico Territory in 1903, my grandfather, William Richard SWEARINGEN and his wife Mary Elizabeth (RUSH) left the Spindletop area of TX for Artesia in the winter of 1904. He was a drilling contractor and had a drilling rig first in Corsicana, Navarro Co., TX in the late 1890's and then moved the rig to Beaumont and Spindletop in the early 1900's.
Their first child, Wave SWEARINGEN, was born August 3, 1905 in Artesia, Eddy Co., New Mexico. The doctor who delivered their first child was Dr. Heck. His teenage daughter, Wave, caught the eye of both Wm. R. & Mamie SWEARINGEN, and they asked if they could name their first child, WAVE, in honor of this young girl and of her father, Dr. Heck.
I'm looking for information on the Dr. Heck family that was living in Artesia, NM in the early 1900's .
