Cindy,
I am sorry if I gave you the impression that I knew something about these families. I was just wondering about the names and the number of Norman widows. Here is a complete run of the Normans in that county through 1850. Maybe it can help someone. I listed the page numbers of the census records because they show in every case that these Normans were not living near each other.
Rockingham County, North Carolina, and Pittsylvania County, Virginia, border each other. Neither county's boundaries were changed in this period.
We are lucky to have the 1790 census here. The name Courtney Norman definitely ties this man to the Virginia family. Isaac Norman, whom I mentioned in my original query, was married to Frances Courtney, and they named a son Courtney. That was nearly a century earlier, but a lot of work has been done on that Norman family, so the Courtneys here may have been identified.
The spelling of Lucy Norman's name in 1830 was corrected by a user at Ancestry.com. I wrote to her and asked whether she knew anything about Lucy, but she didn’t.
