Ten, Not Twelve, Children of Pressley Norsworthy

A mistake has been passed along in listing children of Pressley and Misseniah Norsworthy of China Grove, Pike County AL. With help from descendant Oscar Thomas and Census data, I have concluded that the two youngest children formerly counted as children of Pressley and Misseniah were not theirs but those of their second son Benjamin F. Norsworthy and his first wife Bethany Weldon Norsworthy.

B. F. and Bethany married in 1847. They went off to Louisiana where she died in 1860. B. F. returned to AL and was in the household of his parents in Pike County in the 1860 Census. That household included children Elizabeth Norsworthy (aged 10) and Phoebe A. Norsworthy (aged 6), both born in AL.

The 1880 Census included, in Pressley's household, Frances E. Norsworthy, aged 30, GRANDDAUGHTER, born in AL of parents born in AL. She and Elizabeth in 1850 are likely the same person--first child of B.F. and Bethany. Phoebe, born in 1854 and shown in the earlier (1860) Census with Pressley and son B.F.,is probably B.F.'s second daughter.
