Richard Northcross, Civil War Casualty
According to the information I've received on my 3rd great grandfather, James Richard Northcross (1806-1863), he was killed while defending Richmond in a Seven Day battle.
The reports online indicate that "Richard" Northcross died on June 27, 1862 during the Battle of Gaines Mill. Gaines Mill is associated with the Richmond Battlefields of the National Park Service. This battle protected Richmond from Federal Forces. And "Richard" was named to the Roll of Honor for Company K, of the 2nd Mississippi, for his part in this battle.
It looks to me like James Richard Northcross died in 1862 (rather than 1863) at the battle of Gaines Mill. Is there any evidence to refute this?
