Thanks for the response.I am excited about finally having someone to bounce around ideas. I had for a while thought exactly what you are proposing simply because of the similarities in the family names. But what proof is there that Abigail and Hannah Northcross of Va. were actually children of Richard Norcross of Watertown/Weston, Mass?I have seen this repeated over and over but there is never any proof or reference cited with it. I am not saying it is not true, but before we accept it as fact there has to be some other proof besides the fact that the names are similar. After all, there were plenty of girls named Hannah and Abigail around 1700 and they could just as easily have married into the family. This also doesn't explain the mentions of James Northcross and Thomas Northcross in the Albemarle Parish register. It seems to me that you can't justify the one without the other.
It is true that Richard, son of Richard and Rose Woodward Norcross, b. Dec 30 1687, sort of disappears from Mass.,but is that enough to say that he moved to Virginia and took his two sisters with him, especially when the Norcross family was pretty well established in New England? This idea still neglects the presence of James and Thomas Northcross who were obviously closely associated with the family of Richard.Richard of Mass. did not have brothers named James or Thomas (or cousins that I know of).
It is certainly a bit of a tangled web.I do know that there were two Richard Northcrosses, one the son of the other. The first was married to Mary, the second was married to Jane.
I look forward to any comments you have.Maybe I am way off base and if so, please point it out to me.
