Dear Dorothy
I have finally found my link with my John Crane Nottage.I first made contact with David Nottage in NZ when he left a message on the Forum about the Lord Mayor as stated beneath & he then sent me his Nottage Family Tree.I was very interested in a Nottage that had 'Crane' as his middle name, so I asked him if he had additional information, whereupon one of his relatives, Dennis Bruce Nottage of Wales contacted me & said he has come full circle with his part of the family with my family but he might know of your side of the family.Mine, his & David's go back about 14 generations.Dennis' email address is Dennis Bruce Nottage [email protected] also told me that our side of the Nottages emigrated from Yorkshire to either Australia or NZ.
I have also been corresponding with Albert Nottage of Ohio who is probably attached to the then Lord Mayor of London in 1884, George Swan Nottage.
When I was told by my mother that a member of the family had a Lord Mayor's medal in his possession & that it was associated with George Swan Nottage, I obtained a biography from the Corporation of London City Council but alas, I am not related to George Swan Nottage.I am still trying to find out how our family got the Medal.Dennis says he might be related to a Thomas Nottage of South Australia whose name was used for the wine called 'Nottage Hill' made by McClaren Vale Vineyards in South Australia.Dennis seems to be well up in researching on the family, he has told me that he has written a book on how he did his researching & is sending me a copy.
I know of no Nottages going to America. The only ones from my family that went to Canada & America are attached to my mother's father's side of the family (Willis) & I am still researching them. They came from Scotland but it is very difficult as I do not know the 3 sons names only my gggrandfather who migrated to Australia.
Anyway, I hope this message helps you somehow.Good Luck.
