Justin,
We are definitely related -- I am your fourth cousin once removed, to be exact.Your great-grandfather Elmo was the son of John Martin Nowell, who had a twin brother James D. Nowell. They were born April 3, 1881.They were sons of Martin Van Buren Nowell.MVB's wife was Margaret Dobkyns/Dobkins.Her brother Jacob Dobkyns/Dobkins had married MVB/s sister Elizabeth, but was murdered along with Abraham Nowell, the father of MVB and Elizabeth in the 'Slicker Wars' of Benton Co., MO.
Abraham was married to Gladis White.Abraham and Gladis were the parents of nine children (MVB was their youngest). There were 6 girls and 3 boys: Sarah, Elizabeth, Gilbert, Margaret, Nancy, Shadrach, Mary, Euphemia, and MVB.MVB and his brother Gilbert fought on the Confederate side during the Civil War, but Shadrach fought on the side of the Union. The brothers never spoke to each other again after they enlisted. MVB lost an eye in the war.He eventually settled in Big Valley, Mills Co., TX in 1877, where he died and is buried.
Your great-grandfather Elmo had a sister named Juanita, but I don't have any frther info on her.
I descend from Nancy Ramah Nowell Lemon, who was my great-grandmother. I have been researching this family off and on for more than ten years and have lots more info.I'd be glad to share. Please email me privately.
