Made Receiver of Old Florida Mine
HAWTHORNE (Nev.), October 23 - J.P. MARSHALL, of Goldfield, Cashier of the Nye and Ormsby County Bank, has been named Receiver of the famous old Florida mine at Lida, one of the biggest producers that was ever opened in Nevada. He has assumed charge of the property and expects to discharge all its debts within a short time and restore it to the stockholders in good condition. The Florida was opened many years ago, and has yielded up several million in silver and gold. Recently it passed into new hands, one of the purchasers being State Senator BROUGHTON, of California. A mill was installed and extensive improvements made, but mismanagement and ignorance are said to have attended the expenditures and the company was unable to meet its debts within a few months.
Drops Suits Against Lang and Bleakmore
HAWTHORNE (Nev.), October 23 - W.H. LANG and L. BLEAKMORE, two prominent brokers of Goldfield, who were arrested several weeks ago upon a charge of embezzlement filed by the Mims-Sutro Brokerage Company of Tonopah and Goldfield, have been discharged from custody. The case against them has been dismissed. Lank and Bleakmore purchased the Goldfield commission houses of the Mims-Sutro Company, and as the result of a disagreement over the settlement, E.L. MIMS made a demand on Land and Bleakmore for the return of certain stocks and books held by them. He was refused, and at the point of a revolver then held the office force at bay while a couple of men carried off the contents of the office. He then caused the arrest of Lang and Bleakmore on a charge of embezzlement. All of the parties concerned are prominent in the mining camps.
