What do you want to know about Lander County? I can give you some names and their telephone numbers
to ask. Also the book Nevada Place Names, and the Austin Lions Club Brochure gives a great deal of
History of Lander County. Austin was the county seat for a hundred years or more, when the population
shifted to Battle Mountain the County Seat was moved there. Austin is where the History is.
US 50 runs through the Southern part of the county, and I-80 runs through the Northern part.
Also in the Book Issues, NEVADA The Silver State Vol. 2, Published by Western States Historical Publishers, INC
1970, Carson City, Nevada. Copyright 1969 will give you volumes of information.
One contact in Austin has hundreds of old time photos for the very early days in Austin. Lander County is in
the center of the State, and the Geographical Center of Nevada is in Lander County, in upper Big Smokey
Valley. The Highest Mountain Range in Central Nevada is the Toiyabe Range, in Lander & Nye Counties.
The Peaks, Bunker Hill at 11,474 el, Arc Dome 11,773 el. above sea level.
