August 24, 1886 in Green Castle,MO Ora Reed (Boy) Lena Reed Myrtle Reed Odos Reed (Girl) b. February 10, married Elton Durham on September 7, 1912. May Reed Lee Reed (Girl) ADDIE WILLIAMS was born in Green Castle, MO and is thought to be buried in Balltown Cemetery. The Williams branch from around Green Castle, MO are probably buried there. ROSA MAUDE REED was probably born in North MO town of Green Castle, or in Oklahoma. One report is that she was born on an Indian Reservation in OK. It is known that she lived in the Indian Territory which is now the state of OK. Her sister Lee was born in a covered wagon on a wagon train. At their home in OK the Indians would come into their house, sit down at the table to eat whatever was there, never saying a word. They could not speak English or refused to. The entire time they were there they would have their guns laying across their laps. They would respond with grunts. The house was probably a sod house. It was said to have dirt floors that they would sweep with brooms made of buckbrush. There was no glass in the windows, sacks (probably burlap or flour) covered the windows. GEORGE REED would use a horse drawn plow and make a furrow through the forest to the school so the children could find their way to school and not get lost. A neighbor plowed the same type furrow that joined up to the one GEORGE REED had plowed and the children would walk to school together. They were chased by wild boars and had to climb up in trees to escape from them. At the place where the two furrows met the first family to get there would leave a rock to let the others know that they had gone on and not to wait for them. ROSA told of going to Pow Wows and loved to dance with the Indians. The children would take tin cans, put rocks iside them and tie them around their legs to make noise. They got along fine with the Indians. The Indians would be in the surrounding forest watching the children as they walked to school. It has been said that GEORGE REED was of Indian ancestery. ( This is something to investigate further). GEORGE REED was considered a “rounder” more or less an outlaw, but his brother Tone was said to be worse. ROSA was quite a “lady”. Held in high opinion by all who knew her. Whenever a need arose she would be there to help. She was a nurse to the sick, a midwife to those in childbirth, a barber, beautician, etc., whenever or whatever need arose she was called upon. If she heard of someone needing food or clothing, she would round up those things and deliver them to those in need. Many stories have been told of her deeds and acts. Her husband was a section foreman for the railroad. Their daughter MILDRED was born in Bruneau, ID. It is believed that Art Grove (Willie Grove’s son, nephew of Charles Grove, Sr.) lives in Idaho and that he shared some family history with Charles Grove, Jr. at one time before Jr.’s death.
