The following is in response to a posting about this book from a great grandson of William DAUB on the DAUB family genforum.
As I had borrowed the book from the public library, it is not in front of me, but facts were told to the authors by one of Milton's daughters, so it probably is based on fact. If one looks at the 1880 Census for New York county, one finds the William DAUB family living at the time on Avenue A (they weren't in the Bronx yet), but the DAUB family was comprised of William (38), Mary (31), Milton (4), Alle (3), Hannah (10mos), Cosse LADERER (20), Joseph LADERER (23), Marko LADERER (18). In 1888 and the blizzard event, Milton would have been 12.
If I were you I would purchase the book. I believe it is probably about your great uncle's family. I am a retired librarian, and am glad my posting was found to be of interest.
