Thanks for your efforts. I'm very confident that the Alta in the Poland Chautauqua Co. NY is mine. And that Joseph and Esther are parents and Emma is her daughter. It matches family records compiled in the 1930s (by Emma's granddaughter -- and Emma was still alive at the time). Unfortunately I don't have the source documents or contemporaneous records. So I'm looking for that proof. Joseph and Esther live with Alta in 1850 in Poland Chautauqua NY, live next door to her in 1860 Sioux Harrison Co. IA, and are buried next to her in Conyers cemetery in Little Sioux Harrison Co. IA (a small cemetery with a lot of Conyers family and the Barbers and Hoags are all in a separate corner). So that is consistent with my info that they are the parents. And in tracing records Emma follows Esther, not Alma or Elnathan. A 12-year old Allata (mispelled) and a 22-year old Emma live with Altana in the 1860 and 1870 Little Sioux Harrison Co. IA. That is consistent with my info that she is her daughter. Neither Alma or Elnathan show a child Emma again. Alma is recorded as "F" in the 1850 census and "M" in 1860. Not sure which is right. I'm assuming "M" is correct because 1860 also gives an occupation of Farmer and I give credence to affirmative information. As you note, there is no child in 1860. Elnathan is in the 1870 census for Little Sioux Harrison IA with his wife Martha and son Arthur. They are all in the 1880 Sherman Monona Co. IA census and a second son Harvey. And all in the 1885 Webster Hamilton Co. IA with a newborn. (A couple use the initial "E" and S or F or T as middle initial) Notify Administrator about this message?
