Gary, The best place to start is to find your grandfather`s parents names. If you know when & where he died, get his death record which may have his parents listed. If he died in Jamestown, contact the city clerk`s office for the certificate. The clerk`s web page is here: http://www.jamestownny.net/admin_clerk.php If the death record does not show his parent`s names, then send for his Social Security application form, the SS5. There are eight Eric Johnsons listed for Chautauqua Co. on the SS Death Index. Go here to do a search: http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi You can generate a letter on this site to the SS Admin. to request the form. It takes up to six months to receive it. The SS5 will give you parents names, including mother`s maiden, if Eric knew it when he filled out the form. Also, if you know/find Eric`s death date, ask a local library in the town where he died to search for a death notice/obit which may give you some info. Good luck, Pat R.
