As many know, I’ve been sorting and placing Bombard/Bombardier/Labombarde families who migrated to Clinton County NY and then spread out. See the BOMBARD forum for queries regarding Howard and family, as well as some responses to this posting. 1900 USC - Burlington (Chittenden) VT Almira Bombard, 32, born Jul 1862, Canada, both parents born Canada, widow, 6 children/3 still living John Lavalley, 20, born Dec 1879, NY, father born VT, mother born Canada Theodore Lavalley, 17, Nov 1882, NY, father born VT, mother born Canada Howard Bombard, 4, born Mar 1896, VT, father born VT, mother born Canada Arthur Jandro, 16, born Aug 1883, NY, Nephew COMMENT: I searched all available references for Clinton County but could not find birth/baptisms for John or Theodore Lavalley, nor a marriage record for anyone similar to Elmire/Almira Degneault/Denault/etc. to any Lavallee/Lavalley. There were several John H. Lavallees in Clinton County, but none with a wife of a similar name and I was able to identify all of those as not being the gent in question. COMMENT: I also attempted to follow the nephew. As with the Lavallees, I searched all available records and did not find a birth/baptism for him. In 1920, he was residing with wife and son at Lebanon (Grafton) NH. A family of Bombard/Labombards were also residing in Lebanon. They were Jean Baptiste, wife Isabelle/Elisabeth Tourville, their children and grandchildren. JB was the son of Andre JR and wife Marie Belanger and had resided in Clinton County prior to migrating to NH. Whether there is some connection to the Bombard line (and this one in particular) via a Geandreau marriage, I couldn’t say, but it might be worth pursuing a bit further. There were several Geandreau and Daignault marriages but again, I couldn’t say if any produced this Arthur. 1910 USC - Chesterfield (Essex) - PERKETT Frank, 58, NY Elima M., 53, VT - 2nd marriage - 1 child/1 still living Florence, 11, NY Howard, 14, VT, both parents born VT <does not list Bombard as surname> Emma, 9, NY COMMENT: Interesting that she does not mention the 2 Lavallee sons, nor any of the other 3 per the 1900 USC. She also states her birthplace as VT from here on out, and the rest of Harold’s entries all cite both parents born VT. Another issue is her age. Rule of thumb in using census ages is that the younger the person, the more probable the age is closer if not correct. In 1900 she is 32 and born Jul 1862; 1910 she is 53, born @1857; 1920 she is 64, born @1856; and 1924 death cites @68, so @1856 again. I personally feel it is safer to go closer to 1860 than earlier than that. 1920 USC - Keeseville (Essex) - BOMBARD Howard, 23, VT, both parents born VT <Index cites him as Son-in-law/entry shows Stepson> Residing with mother and stepfather Elmira M., 64, VT Wife of Frank Perkett, 67, NY 1930 USC - North Elba (Essex) - BOMBARD Howard, 34, VT, both parents born VT, married at age 24 Mattie, 26, NY, both parents born NY, married at age 16 Ruth, 9, NY James, 4 2/12, NY 1900 USC - Chesterfield (Essex) PARKETT <Indexed as PARKER> - ALL born NY Frank, 48, born Jan 1852, married 17 years Julia, 36, born Mar 1864, 7 children/7 still living <listed as daughter instead of wife> George, 24, born Feb 1876 Kate, 18, born Jun 1882 Julia, 15, born Sep 1885 Maggie, 14, born Jan 1886 Frank, 11, born Jul 1888 Mary, 7, born Nov 1893 Ellen, 6, born Mar 1894 Malvina, 4, born Apr 1896 Florence, 1, born Oct 1899 Abraham Ducla, 68, born May 1832, widow, Father COMMENT: Frank and 2nd wife Julia married @1893 and the last 7 children were by her. Frank’s first wife was Lydia Beauchemin and the birth of son George is recorded in St. John the Baptist of Keeseville. There was also a daughter Charlotte Lydia recorded in 1878. As she is not with Frank in 1900, she was likely married. St. John the Baptist register ends in 1880. Abraham Duclos was the father of Julia. The 1880 shows the family at Chesterfield - Abrom Duclow is age 48, NY, widow and daughter Julia is age 17. 1880 USC - Mariah (Essex) - PERKET - All born NY Frank, 28 Lydia, 28 George, 4 Clora, 2 <hard to read but is indexed as Clora> Lily, 2/12 ***** I just received some transcriptions and there was this entry: HOWARD FRANCIS BOMBARDIER & NELLIE JOANNE TAYLOR Married 5 June 1920, St. John the Baptist of Keeseville His parents: FRANCOIS BOMBARDIER & ELIZABETH DENAULT I realize that the 1930 USC shows her as MATTIE, so it is possible that the person transcribing from the original record saw it as Nellie. Then I went looking for any Francis/Frank born in VT, working back from the 1880 in the hopes of finding a likely candidate. After eliminating any number of them, I extracted the following, not just because the Francis/Frank seems on track, but because of the location. I cannot guarantee that this is the correct line until such time as a marriage record is found for Francois & Elizabeth/Elmire. The following is the line I believe to be for Francois/Frank that married Elizabeth/Elmire Degneault: 1880 USC - Vergennes (Addison) VT - LaBOMBARD Peter, 43, NY Adeline, 41, Canada Frances (female), 17, VT William, 15, VT Marion, 12, VT Frank, 9, VT <the one I think was Howard’s father> Edward, 5, VT Frederick, 6/12, VT 1870 USC - Vergennes (Addison) VT - LABOMBARD Peter, 32, Canada Adaline, 31, Canada Francis (female), 7, VT Willie, 5, VT Marion, 3, VT 1860 USC - Addison (Addison) VT - LABOMBARD Peter, 22, NY Adeline, 20, VT 1850 US Census - Champlain - La_BOMBARD Peter, 55, Canada Angelique, 45, Canada Francis, 17, Canada Zeb, 15, Canada Peter, 13, Canada Philamen, 12, NY More is available on this line at this link: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?pierre::bombardier::289.html Notify Administrator about this message?
