Bev, I have a copy of a record from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. I copied the whole page when I visited that church a long time age. The first entry on top of the page I copied is numbered #3, the #5 entry is from 1853. Is that as early as I will find records from St. Peter's?

My Baudin line was in Plattsburgh as early as 1835 so I am wondering where the children born soon after 1835 were baptized? I’m wondering whether the French went to St. John's or was there somewhere else the sacraments were administered to them? I was also thinking about land records. I am pretty good researching the south but need to learn a lot more about Quebec and New York.

Currently my research is focused on Joseph Baudin but am confused over two, possibly distinct, individuals, one from St. Constant and one from Plattsburgh. I am inclined to think they are one and the same but am looking for confirmation.

The Joseph Baudin from Plattsburgh is my line, for certain, born about 1810 in Canada and came to Clinton as early as 1835. I have his wife, Marie Esther Durete (Lirete) and their children, Joseph died in Plattsburgh in 1870.

Rose Beauva(b. 8/29/1781 St. Phillipe, d. 2/4/1819 St. Constant) is had two husbands, her first husband was Joseph Rheaume. Rose was 18 when she and Rheaume were married on September 30, 1799 and had only one child, daughter Rose Rheaume. Joseph Rheaume died and Rose married a second time to Joseph Baudin in 1803 in St. Constant.

Rose ‘s second marriage, to Joseph Baudin (b. 1772, d. 1850 St. Constant), took place in St. Constant in 1803. They had two children together, Joseph Baudin [jr.] born 1813 in St. Constant and Theostiste Baudin born 1810. Theostiste Baudin married Augustin Bourdeau February 15, 1830 in St. constant and died 1899.

Rose Rheaume, the half sister of Joseph [jr.] and Theostiste, married Alexis Robidoux January 9, 1815 in St. Constant. They had two daughters, Celine Robidoux (married George Pelletier August 7, 1855 in Clinton) and Domitille Robidoux (married Jean Baptiste Rousseau November 13, 1854 in Clinton Co.) The daughters’ marriages were recorded at St. John's in Keeseville.

I will continue to look for a connection between the Joseph Baudin [jr.] and the Joseph Baudin living in Plattsburgh in 1840-1870 who was married to Marie Esther Duret. I think they are one in the same but I am still looking for proof. At first I thought my Plattsburgh Joseph was the son of Michel Baudin and Marie Josephte Deneault. You and I had followed the four daughters of this couple to Plattsburgh and to St. Peter's. We always found them close to my Plattsburgh Joseph Baudin. The problem is I cannot find a Joseph Baudin born to Michel Baudin and Deneault.

Is has been proven that the father of Joseph Baudin [jr.] (i.e. Joseph Baudin, born 1772) and married to Rose Beauvais is a brother to Michel Baudin (his wife Deneault). So the four daughters we were following of Michel and Deneault are, indisputably, cousins to the St. Constant Joseph Baudin. You and I had followed the four daughters of Michel and Denault and they lived in Plattsburgh and were members of St. Peter's and were always living close to my Plattsburgh Joseph Baudin. Michel Baudin and Joseph (father of [jr.]) were sons of Toussaint Baudin and Marie Gagne (Gagnier). One more thing about my Plattsburgh Joseph Baudin, my grandmother told us all her dad was a ¼ Native American. On the baptismal record of St. Constant Joseph Baudin (born 1813) there is the word Metis. It does add a little more weight to the two men being the same fellow.
