Town of Windham Historical Society 2008 Newsletter

The Town of Windham Historical Society's Board of Trustees will meet on November 20 to collate, staple, fold, label and stamp our 2008 newsletter. This year it will only be sent to members of the Society who have paid their dues for 2008. If you would like to receive a copy there's still time to sign up. Even if you are not a resident of the Town of Windham you can still become a member of the Society by sending your name, mailing address, email address, membership level and a check payable to the

Annual membership levels are as follows:
Basic - $10 per person
Seniors age 55 and over - $5 per person
Families residing at the same address - $15 per household

Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you would like to receive a membership card.

The Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations of any amount are always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Among the items contained in this illustrated, ten page issue are: "A Grave Undertaking," the 1837 apprentice's indenture of George W. Potter; "Truth is Stranger than Fiction," a fictionalized account of a local murder that appeared in "Storm Fear," a 1954 novel by Hensonville author Clinton Seeley; "Cold-Blooded Murder Near East Windham Early Monday Morning" and "Body of Murder Victim Unidentified," two 1932 newspaper accounts of a gangland murder; "Big Hollow's First Church," information from an 1803 letter; "The Bill Collector," a 1915 letter regarding an unpaid debt for a plot in the Hensonville Cemetery; New Book about the Catskills; Fine Art Print Raffle; 2009 Postcard Show and Book Signing; 2009 Annual Meeting; "Where Did You Get That Name?" a 1912 newspaper item about Union Society being changed to Brooksburg; and a 2009 membership form.
