Wow! Thank you so much for your efforts! I wouldn't have asked, but this John Johnson has been so troublesome. The Nine Partners guy was supposedly a JohnsTon. About 2 years ago, I just took off and went to the Dutchess Co Historical Society. The volunteer gave me reams of stuff, telling me that John's real name was JohnsTon. But when I got home, nothing fit. I called them to say so and was told the lady got excited because she'd just done a report on the JohnsTons and the material had nothing to do with my G3GF. I was told to wait for the 'Settlers of the Beekman Patent' author to get that volume out with the Js. I'm guessing that John must have siblings and/or cousins in the area and maybe some of the names you mention are those. The John Johnson the 'Settlers...' book ends with is a RW vet who lived into his 80s in Dover. However, the book says that no will was ever found for him. Just about 3 days ago I saw where FamilySearchLabs.org has the NYS 1865 Census online - images, no searching. I found John & Anor in Dover. One of the questions was what county was the person born in - it's Dutchess for John, so if that's correct, it narrows it down quite a bit. I haven't found his son George in the census yet, so I'll have to keep looking. That person living with John & Smith in 1870 was Anor, not Amos. Many enumerators and transcribers have had difficulty with her name. I'll e-mail you my address. You're a genealogical gem! J Notify Administrator about this message?
