Sue,

On the 1910 census (at Ancestry.com) the Sharlan family is indexed as Sharlow. The page that they appear on is practically unreadable. Ancestry has the head of household indexed as just Sharlow, no given name & they index the head as a male. On the sheet it does appear that the sex of the head of household is marked as M but I believe this is Emma Sharlan. The age is given as 41 & Joseph would have been 54 or 55 in 1910. Also, it`s clearly marked that the head has had 7 children with 7 living. The birthplace is given as New York with parents born in Canada. I can`t find this family on the 1920 census but Emma Sharlan is there in Malone as head in 1930 with children Albert & Leona.

If you go to http://news.nnyln.net/ & click on MALONE FARMER 1900-1936 & search for Sharlan you will get 7 hits. One of these is a 1924 death notice for Mrs. Joseph Robideau, age 96. One of the listed survivors is a daughter, Mrs. Emma Sharlan of Malone. You might find Mrs. Robideau`s death record with the Malone town clerk & that may give you information on her birthplace & parents names. A Joseph & Mary Robideau are on the 1920 census in Malone. Both are age 92.

Pat R.
