I have been researching a Patrick HUGHES family of Madrid, NY, (near Trout Brook), and also in Westville, NY. Patrick HUGHES, came to the US from Ireland and most likely through Canada in 1832, at the age of 12. (Per 1900 Fed Census of Westville, NY.) There is a Patrick Hughes, in the 1850 census of Madrid, with wife Ann, and sons James, Michael, John, and William. (A map of Madrid from 1859 lists a Patrick Hughes as owner of land near Trout Brook.) Patrick Hughes, is not listed in the 1860 census of Madrid,NY but I may have found him in the 1860 census of Westville, NY, listed as Patrick Hewes with wife Sarah, instead of Ann?? Children are John, James, Patrick, Richard, Michael, and Francis. I am wondering if there were two Patrick Hughes, one of Madrid, NY, and one of Westville, NY, or if are they the same Patrick??? In 1870 Patrick, is in Westville, NY with wife Sarah, and children James, Mary, Catherine, Richard, Michael, Sarah, Margaret, Francis, and Elizabeth. (Blended family????) I have found an Ann Hughes, living with John and Ann McFadden, and wonder if this is Patrick Hughes' wife from Madrid, NY, as listed in the 1850 census? In 1880, Michael J. Hughes, is listed in Madrid, NY with his "mother" Ann Hughes. There is an 1896 map with Michael listed as owner of the same land that Patrick owned in 1859. (Michael is my children's GG Grandfather.) In 1880 census of Westville, Patrick and Sarah and children James, Francis, Sarah and Elizabeth are listed. No Michael Hughes, found in Westville, NY in 1880, but could Michael J. Hughes, in Madrid, NY with mother Ann Hughes, be the Michael from the 1860 & 1870 census of the Patrick Hughes family in Westville?? Thank you for any assist with this dilemma!!! If anyone is connected to these HUGHES families of St. Lawrence and Franklin Co, would be open to correspond. Regards, Lynn Notify Administrator about this message?
