Merritt E. Roberts 1830s New York

I am trying to find any evidence that my great-great-grandfather, named Merritt Edwin Roberts, is the same Merritt E. Roberts born in Chateaugay on December 15, 1834 (son of William G. Roberts and Zerbiah Davidson).

My Merritt E. Roberts in later census records identified his birth as 1832 in Malone New York. All of my records for him are from Wisconsin, where he married somewhere around 1870. He died in Marinette Wisconsin in 1896.

If anybody has any ideas for connecting these two Merritt E. Roberts, please let me know.
