Seeking help from anyone regarding the Forbes family of Broadalbin area, Fulton County, New York.
Here's what I know so far:
Peter/Patrick Forbes, b. 1776 Perthshire, Scotland.
Married Margaret McDougal, b. 1770 Perthshire, Scotland.
Peter/Patrick died 1861, Broadalbin, NY
Margaret died 1850, Broadalbin, NY
Peter/Patrick (apparently the name is interchangeable in Scotland) and Margaret came to New York in 1801. Settled shortly afterward in Broadalbin.
Peter/Patrick and Margaret's children:
Margaret b. 1803, New York, d. 1879, New York
Peter Jr. b. 1805, New York, d. 1889, New York
Here's where I get confused!!!
In the 1850 census information, Peter Forbes Jr. is listed with 2 children, but NO WIFE.
Directly below Peter Forbes Jr., in what appears to be a different household, is a Mary Forbes. Mary is listed with 9 children, but NO HUSBAND. One of those 9 children was Francis Forbes, my g.g.grandfather.
In the cemetery records Mary Forbes (b. 1808 in NY and d. 1850 in NY) is listed as the wife of Peter Forbes Jr. She must have passed away after the 1850 census was taken.
I cannot find a marriage record for Peter Forbes Jr. and Mary. Nor for any spouse Peter may have had before his marriage to Mary.
I do not know how to obtain a death certificate for Peter/Patrick Forbes Sr, or his wife Mary McDougal. I was hoping to find parentage information on them via the death certificates. Then, I could turn to the Scottish genealogy records to trace them further.
ANY help or additional information would be deeply appreciated!! Thank you to all who read this.
