Hi! Lisa...at last someone is interested in my William Phillips. No, your John is not my William's son but his grandson...his father is John Phillips who married Elizabeth Chase. They are buried in the Broadalbin Cemetery. Your John is the Rev. John Phillips born Sept 13, 1811 in Broadalbin, NY. Joined the Christian Church in Union Mills, NY and served in many States before his term at Antioch College.Rev. John died Sept. 17/18 1868 in Merom, Indiana (Sullivan Co.)from a fractured skull when thrown from his horse. He was a trustee at Antioch College, and financial agent who raised more money than any other person involved. He also helped found Union Christian College, also Merom, Indiana. Married to Ruth H. Gifford from Fall River, Ma. Both Rev. John Phillps and Ruth Gifford Phillips are buried in the Horace Mann Cemetery, Merom, Indiana. Children that I am aware of are Leander (m. Lou Herndon) John T., Oliver A., Elijah, Caroline and Charlotte. Leander's children Lauretta and Freddie Gifford Phillips.Ref. Chase Chronicles, NEGHS.: Correspondence with Antioch College: 1975, Antioch Officers and Faculty. Pg.24: History of Greene and Sullivan Counties, State of Indiana. Chicago: Goodspeed Bros.and Co. 1884 pgs. 803-804. Now, tell me...who was John's great-grandfather???
