One last question (there's always one last question!)
The 1820 NY Fed. Census listed Miles Johnson and wife Anna as newly married and living next door to Cyrus Smalling in Lexington. As you pointed out, Mary Johnson, (Miles's niece I found out), was married to Gilbert Smalling, and is living with Miles & Anna in Hunter in the 1850 census, listing her relationship to Miles as sister in law.
Do you have any information on Cyrus Smalling and his children? I found Cyrus W Smalling b. 1810 who is probably
his son, but I suspect Miles's wife Anna was a Smalling. Anna's last name would complete this puzzle which has taken over a year to complete.
