Now is the time to become a member or renew your membership in the Town of Windham Historical Society. This year our annual newsletter, which will be mailed in the fall, will only be sent to those who have paid their dues for 2008. We need to receive your money by August 1 in order to know how many copies to print.

Annual membership levels are as follows:

Basic (per person) ... $10.00
Seniors (age 55+) ... $5.00
Family (residing at the same address) ... $15.00
Donations of any amount are always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Even if you are not a resident of the Town of Windham you can still become a member of the Society by sending your name, mailing address, email address, membership level and a check payable to the:

Town of Windham Historical Society
PO Box 1111
Windham, NY 12496

Several events have been scheduled for 2008. Our third annual meeting will take place at the Windham Civic Center, Main Street, Windham on Friday, June 6 at 6:30 PM. Gary Wank will be our guest speaker. He is expected to give a presentation on the Peck family that once owned an extensive tract of land between Hensonville and Maplecrest. All are welcome to attend this free event, but only town residents who are also members of the Society may nominate candidates to serve on the Board of Trustees, hold office, and vote for trustees and officers.

A postcard show will be held at the Windham Civic Center on Saturday, July 5 from 1 to 5 PM. A bake sale and basket raffle will be held in conjunction with this event. Admission is free.

No date has been set for our third annual town photo. Information will be posted on the Society's website, in the Windham Journal's Community Calendar, on the WRIP datebook <http://wrip979.com/datebook.html> and announced on WRIP 97.9 FM.

This fall, at a date, time and place yet to be determined, the Society will host a book signing. John M. Ham, the author of several books on local railroads, will be signing copies of "One Hundred Years on 'Resort Ridge' - The Legendary Mountain Hotels of the Northern Catskills." Area historians and collectors, John Duda, Lonnie Gale, John Ham, Justine Hommel, Suzanne Hudson, Tim Mallery, Patricia Morrow, Larry Tompkins, Robert Uzzilia and others have contributed their writing talents and loaned hundreds of old photographs and advertising ephemera.

Please visit the Town of Windham Historical Society's website for further information on our organization. We are currently featuring a circa 1865 miniature tintype of an unidentified woman. Her image was taken at Henry Fish's Gem Gallery in Windham Centre, NY.
