Annual Tour of Homes to Feature Palenville The Greene County Historical Society will hold its 32nd annual Tour of Homes in Palenville on Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nestled at the foot of the Kaaterskill Clove, Palenville was well established as a tourist destination in the heyday of the Catskill Mountain House. Its location just beneath the Catskill Mountains, its scenic views, waterfalls and streams made it a Mecca for Hudson River School artists. This is the area associated with Rip Van Winkle and his famous 20-year sleep. Here also the Otis Elevated Railway carried countless visitors up the last leg of their trip to the Mountain House. This year's tour features several of the historic hotels that made Palenville famous, a Victorian Bed & Breakfast, the beautiful, stone Gloria Dei Church, a Mountain Villa with spectacular Hudson Valley views, a classic Arts & Crafts style home, creek side homes with waterfall access, the Palenville Swinging Bridge and more. This is the first homes tour to be held in the Palenville area so all sites are new. Tour headquarters will be at Maple Grove Resort on Route 23A in Palenville. Tickets are $20 the day of the tour; $15 in advance. Participants will receive a packet of material about the sites along with a marked route map. The tour will be held rain or shine. To reserve advance sale tickets, send a check payable to GCHS to: Greene County Historical Society, P.O. Box 44, Coxsackie, NY 12051. Advance sale ticket reservations must be received by June 2. The tickets will be available with your tour packet at Maple Grove on June 7. Proceeds from the sale of tour tickets support the Greene County Historical Society and its national historic landmarks, the Bronck House Museum and Thomas Cole's Cedar Grove, as well as the Vedder Research Library.
