This weekend the public is cordially invited to attend a free admission event that will definitely delight dedicated deltiologists. For those baffled by that term, deltiology is the collection of postcards and a deltiologist is the person who does the collecting. On Saturday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Town of Windham Historical Society will sponsor a Postcard Show at the Windham Civic Center, Main Street, Windham, NY. Several postcard dealers will offer their merchandise to help you start or add to your collection. Also on Saturday author John Ham will be at the Civic Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to autograph copies of his latest book, "One Hundred Years on 'Resort Ridge' - The Legendary Mountain Hotels of the Northern Catskills." A portion of the proceeds from the books sold that day will be donated to the Town of Windham Historical Society. This hardcover, 8.5" x 11" book contains 448 pages and some 700 black and white images pertaining to the early hotels, boarding houses and resorts of Delaware, Greene and Ulster counties. Please visit the Town of Windham Historical Society's website for further information on our organization. We are currently featuring a circa 1896 cabinet card of a woman in mourning. She is believed to be Lydia (Slater) Mott. Her photo was taken by James Vernon Brandow of Windham, NY. <http://ourworld.cs.com/pmorrowj/myhomepage/poetry.html> or Google "Town of Windham Historical Society" in quotation marks and hit the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button.
