To the Jefferson County List
Have you ever wonder where some of the first settlers of Watertown where first laid to rest? Name's like Cowan, Sherman, Massey, Keys, just to name a few.

In our work on photographing and documenting Northern NY Cemetery we are ask often where the first burial ground was located in Watertown.(everyone seem to think its Arsenal Street Cemetery.)

But in reality it was the Old Burying Grounds then located on Court Street behind the Old Trinity Church.

The following URL

is a bit of what we have located so far, also the JCHS published our story last year with more information and other maps..

I am not sure what the interest may be in the community, but some folks have wonder why there is nothing to identity where this first burial place was located.

So with that in mine I would like to find out what this list thinks. I for one would like to see some kind of plague or marker to show where the early founder/settler of this area where first laid to rest.

If anyone else is interested please let me know. We can set up a meeting and put together ideas to present to the County and City Councils.
