I am seeking information on Theodore Benjamin b.1853 and his mother, Rhoda Matilda Kinney b.abt 1817. Rhoda died 17 Sept 1866 in Lewis County, NY. Rhoda was married to Medad Benjamin b. 1808 in Greene County, NY and the mother of 10 children. As related to me by one of Rhoda's descendants, there is a tragic story involving Theodore and his mother. After Medad died, Rhoda eventually went to live under the care of one of her daughters in Lewis County, NY. Theodore was an alcoholic, and during one of his visits his mother pleaded with him to lead a better life. In a drunken rage he beat her with a chair and she ended up dying a week later from the injuries. This was late 1880's. The account of the trial was in all the local papers, and Theodore spent some time in prison. I believe the last thing I've found on him was that he had joined one of his brothers, Newton out west. Would anyone know where I could find the newspaper accounts of Theodore's trial? Notify Administrator about this message?
