You can also write and get a copy of his social security application,
which will have info on his parents and where he was born.

Try looking him up in one of the following Social Security Death Indexs,
and then have the web page auto write the request form for you. It costs $7.

(more recent material, contains deaths after 1951, faster)

(allows wildcards, slower)

(requires a year range, which I put as 1700-2000)
