Jeremy,

In checking census records for Lewis Hart in Vernon Co.(formerly Bad Ax Co.)I see he is there in Whitestown in 1860 living with a Mary Hart, age 73, b. Massachusetts. In 1880 he gives his parents birthplace as NY & his own as PA but in 1900 he is born in NY & his parents are born in Mass. In 1860 on the same page as Lewis is a Lysander Hart family. Lysander is 39, b. PA. He has a wife & several children all born in Ohio. This is most probably Lewis` brother. I can`t locate him or Lewis anywhere on the 1850 census.

Lewis Hart has a Civil War Pension index card listed at Ancestry.com. He claimed an invalid pension in 1862. The application number is: 6919 & the certificate # is 11020. Ellen claimed a widow`s pension in 1905. The numbers are: 833790 & 608036. You can order the files from NARA here: http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/military/civil-war/

Lewis death record is on file in Wisconsin. He died Aug. 14, 1905 in Vernon Co. You can send for a copy of the record & hope it lists his parents names. See here: http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/genealogy/

Pat R.
